stoma stigmas
Having a stoma is pretty special! For kids taking some time learning to love theirs, here are a few things worth knowing.

stoma stigma
The ‘Icky’ Stigma
Some people think that stomas are a bit yucky, but that’s normal – bodies are squishy, gooey things, and that can make us feel weird! Your body, including your stoma, is precious and lets you do amazing things.
The ‘Different’ Stigma
If you look long enough at anyone, you’ll find something that makes them unique – like their curly hair, the colour of their eyes, or being able to make their ears twitch! A stoma is something special that sets you apart.
The ‘Limited’ Stigma
Some people might think that kids with a stoma need to limit how much they move around, but that’s just not true! If you’ve got a stoma, you can still run, jump, play, and have fun like the other kids you know.
The ‘Embarrassed’ Stigma
If you feel a bit shy about having a stoma, that’s ok! Remember, there are lots of other kids who have stomas just like you – you’re not the only one who has one, and almost everyone has felt like you’re feeling right now.
